The “Seminar on Negotiation Skills and Techniques for Public Officials”, organized by the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Economic Relations (MIFER) and funded by the ASEAN-Japan Centre as a National Activities Project, was held in a hybrid format at Grand Amara Hotel in Nay Pyi Taw on 14th February, 2024. Gracing the event, H.E. Dr. Kan Zaw, Union Minister for MIFER delivered an opening speech, setting the stage for an enriching and engaging seminar ahead.
Capacity of negotiation is mainly both fundamental and instrumental in the matters of cross agencies, bilateral & multilateral cooperation, and international affairs. In this aspect, the seminar aims to enhance the negotiation capacities of public officials who are applicable on the ground.
At the seminar, Ms. Michelle Loke, the language and communication expert from the Green Olive Tree in Singapore contributed key topics: definition of negotiation, the negotiation process, effective negotiation strategies and applicable means to overcome the challenges in negotiation to the participants in a virtual setting.
The seminar embraced a range of beneficial aspirations to public officials in the area of public service delivery, contractual negotiation, local and regional policy coordination and formulation, cross-ministerial collaboration, establishment of common consensus and regional & international relations. Additionally, the seminar provided public officials with critical negotiation skills and techniques, enhancing their comprehension of administrative, political, and economic matters in a practical manner.
The seminar was attended by a total of 200 officials, led by H.E. Dr. Kan Zaw, Union Minister for MIFER, including Deputy Minister for MIFER Dr. Wah Wah Maung, Permanent Secretaries, Directors General, high-ranking officials and participants from line agencies and representatives from the ASEAN-Japan Centre.
