US-Myanmar TIFA Planning Meeting

The US-Myanmar Trade and Investment Framework Agreement (TIFA) planning meeting was held at the office of the Myanmar Investment Commission (MIC) on 13th July, 2017.

At the meeting, U Aung Naing Oo, Secretary of the Myanmar Investment Commission and Ms Christine Brown, the Director of the Southeast Asia and Pacific office of the US Trade Representative, delivered the opening remarks respectively.

The meeting aims to discuss the forward plan concerned with the US-Myanmar TIFA signed in 2013.

The meeting was attended by 35 officials from the Myanmar Investment Commission; Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation; Ministry of Labour, Immigration and Population; Ministry of Industry; Ministry of Commerce; Ministry of Planning and Finance;  the Central Bank of Myanmar and representatives from the Southeast Asia and Pacific office of the US Trade Representative and US Embassy to Myanmar.

At the meeting, the two sides discussed matters related to investment, agriculture, customs reform, import permits, intellectual property rights and worker rights.
