Holding the Opening Ceremony of “Regional Seminar on Best Practices for Promoting Inclusive and Sustainable Investment in Lancang-Mekong Countries”

The Ministry of Investment and Foreign Economic Relations organized the opening ceremony on “Regional Seminar on Best Practices for Promoting Inclusive and Sustainable Investment in Lancang-Mekong Countries” funded by the Mekong-Lancang Cooperation Special Fund (2022) at Grand Amara Hotel, Nay Pyi Taw on 24th May 2023. Gracing the event, H.E. Dr. Kan Zaw, Union Minister for the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Economic Relations (MIFER) delivered an opening speech, setting the stage for an enriching and engaging seminar ahead.

Following the Union Minister's opening speech, H.E. Mr. Chen Hai, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, along with Ms. Marlar Than Htaik, Chairman of the Mekong-Lancang Cooperation National Coordination Unit (Myanmar) and Director General of the International Organizations and Economic Department from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, took the stage to deliver their opening remarks, emphasizing the significance of Mekong-Lancang regional collaboration. Then, Heads of Investment Promotion Agencies from Mekong-Lancang Countries conveyed introductory speech respectively.

The core objective of the Seminar is to advocate for inclusive and sustainable investment policies across short-term, medium-term, and long-term horizons. The seminar serves as a platform for Investment Promotion Agencies from Mekong-Lancang countries to share their respective initiatives, fostering an exchange of views on inclusive and sustainable investment practices. Furthermore, the seminar provides a unique opportunity to explore diverse perspectives on inclusive business models, as the business champions from the regional countries present their success stories and best practices.

A total of 13 speakers including international and regional experts, and speakers from Mekong-Lancang countries discussed matters related to the seminar virtually.

The Seminar then transitioned to presentations by Investment Promotion Agencies from the Mekong-Lancang countries, who showcased their respective initiatives and practices in promoting inclusive and sustainable investment. Simultaneously, business champions shared their perspectives on inclusive business models and best practices.

The opening ceremony of the seminar was attended by Deputy Minister of the MIFER Dr. Wah Wah Maung, Permanent Secretaries, Director Generals, H.E. Mr. Mongkol Visitstump, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Thailand to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, high-ranking officials, and representatives from various line ministries. The representatives from the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry, the embassies of Mekong-Lancang countries to Myanmar, investment promotion agencies and private sectors from Mekong-Lancang countries, making a total of approximately 135 participants are participating in this event. The seminar is set to continue its enlightening discourse until 25th May 2023.
