VIRTUALWORKSHOP ON THE INVESTMENT PROMOTION AND FACILITATION FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT IN THE POST-COVID-19 ERA
The Virtual Workshop on the Investment Promotion and Facilitation for Sustainable Development in the Post-COVID-19 Era was held from 2:00 pm to 5:30 pm on 21st January 2021 with the funding support of ASEAN-Japan Centre and the technical assistance of the UNESCAP in order todevelop investment promotion and facilitation Measures taken by the Investment Promotion Agency (IPA) in the Post-COVID-19 Crisis.
The workshop was attended by a total of 70participants, notably U Thant Sin Lwin, Director General of the Directorate of Investment and Company Administration (DICA), Representatives from the ASEAN-Japan Centre and UNESCAP, Speakers, Deputy Directors General and officials from DICA Head-office and State and Regional offices.
At first, U Thant Sin Lwin, Director General of DICA, Mr. Marc Proksch, Chief, Investment and Enterprise Development Sector of the Trade, Investment and Innovation Division (TIID/IEDS) of the UNESCAP and Ms. Fujiko Amano, Assistant Director and Head of Research and Policy Analysis Cluster of the ASEAN-Japan Centre delivered the opening remarks respectively. Then, Ms. Heather Taylor-Strauss, Economic Affairs Officer of TIID/IEDS of the UNESCAP made a presentation of the comparative analysis on IPA policy measures before and after the COVID-19 Pandemic.
After that, Mr. Douglas van den Berghe, an International Investment Policy Expert and UNESCAP consultant shared the role of special economic zones and incentives in attraction of FDI for sustainable development and Ms. Premila Nazareth Satyan and, Non-resident Senior Fellow at India’s National Council of Applied Economic Research, New Delhi and Founder, foreign direct investment and UNESCAP consultant also contributed the FDI and the digital economy to the participants. After the presentation session, all the participants made a discussion based on the points provided by the speakers. The Virtual Workshop was concluded at 5:30 pm.
