“STAKEHOLDER MEETING FOR SHAN INVESTMENT FAIR HELD”

For the purpose of o promoting investments in Shan State and to strengthen linkages between local business and foreign investors, Myanmar Investment Commission (MIC) and Japan International Corporation for Agency (JICA) co-organize the Shan Investment Fair on 10th February 2017 in Taunggyi with Myanmar Marketing Research and Development (MMRD), as the first event of its kind in Shan State.

In order to make Investment Fair a significant opportunity both for Shan State and investors, and to reflect views and willingness of business and public of the Shan State farily, the Stakeholders Meeting was planned and held on 27th December, 2016 at Cherry Queen Hotel in Taungyi.

U Soe Nyunt Lwin, Shan State Economic and Planning Minister, U Aung Naing Oo, Secretary of MIC  and Director General of the Directorate of Investment and Company Administration (DICA), U Aung San Win, Chairman of the Southern Shan State Chambers of Commerce and Industry (SSCCI), JICA, MMRD and approximately 80 Shan State business stakeholders participated in the Stakeholders Meeting, and had constructive discussions for the success of the Investment Fair in February.

The Shan State is the largest state in area among states and regions of Myanmar. It is also a prime location for border trade and huge potential for agriculture, food processing, tourism and other industries. In order to explore its untapped investment opportunities, the Shan State Investment Opportunity Survey is also planned by MIC and JICA and implemented by MMRD in southern, northern and eastern Shan State since November, 2016. Interim findings from the Survey were presented by MMRD and discussed at the Stakeholders Meeting.

In preparation for the upcoming Shan Investment Fair, the findings from the survey were presented to and discussed with the stakeholders and businesses in Shan State on 27th December 2016.

The Shan Investment Fair on 10th February 2017 is to be held in Royal Taunggyi  Hotel including seminar, exhibition and business matching events and site visit. It is expected that the total of 200 attendees including 60 international organization representatives and foreign investors will be there. The Fair is co-organized by MIC and JICA and supported by the Shan State government, SSCCI, Japanese External Trade Organization (JETRO) and MMRD. Final outcome of the Survey will be also presented at the Fair. The Fair is admission free but requires pre-registration. Proceedings of the Fair including pre-registration details shall be released instantaneously.
