CONDUCTING THE WORKSHOP ON NEGOTIATING AND REFORMING INVESTMENT TREATIES: INVESTOR-STATE DISPUTE SETTLEMENT

The Workshop on Negotiating and Reforming Investment Treaties: Investor-State Dispute Settlement was held at Chatrium Hotel, Yangon on 9th August 2019 with the collaboration of the Myanmar Investment Commission, the Directorate of Investment and Company Administration and the Australian National University (ANU) with the support of Australian Government under the project of Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership.

The workshop was conducted aiming to enhance the capacity of the officials and better understanding of the emerging trend and proposed reforms in international investment law and Investor-State Dispute Settlement (ISDS).

It was attended by about 50 participants including the officials from the DICA, representatives from the relevant Departments of different Ministries.

At the workshop, Dr. Marlar Myo Nyunt, Deputy Director General of the Directorate of Investment and Company Administration for the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Economic Relations and Ms. Anthea Roberts delivered the opening remarks respectively.

After that, the workshop was discussed as follows: Overview of proposals to reform investment treaties and ISDS reforms bring discussed at UNCITRAL by Anthea Roberts , Key options to reform investment treaties by Richard Braddock, Investment tareaty Mapping Tool by Wolfgang Alschner and UNCITRAL and ISDS by Athita Komindr respectively. The Workshop was concluded at 5:00 pm.
