THE VIRTUAL WORKSHOP OF THE INVESTMENT TREATIES

A virtual workshop of the Investment Treaties under the project of Negotiating and Reforming Investment Treaties: Enhancing the Capacity of LDCs and LICs in the Asia-Pacific Region, organized by the Australian National University (ANU), was held from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm on 1st December 2020. The workshop was attended by a total of 110 participants, from the DICA and relevant departments.

At the workshop, Professor Ms. Anthea Roberts from the ANU and U Min Zaw Oo, Deputy Director General of DICA gave introductory remarks respectively. At the morning session, Associate Professor Mr. Wolfgang Alschner from the University of Ottawa presented the Investment Treaty Mapping Tool. At the afternoon session, the Legal Officer Mr. Judith Knieper from the UNCITRAL also presented the UNCITRAL and developments in ISDS, and Ms. Anthea Roberts and Assistant Professor Dr Taylor St John from the University of St Andrews contributed the update on status of ISDS reform discussions to the participants. It was followed by the investment implications for IP rights and COVID-19 impacts on the investment treaties shared by Mr. Richard Braddock from the Lexbridge Lawyers, Ms. Anthea Roberts and Dr Taylor St John. The speakers and the participants also discussed related to the workshop’s context throughout the workshop.
