The Myanmar Companies Law was enacted by the Union Parliament as Law No. 29/2017 on 6th December 2017. It is anticipated that it will take approximately 7 months to implement the new law, including to prepare new forms and regulations, establish a new electronic companies registry and undertake capacity building for the new law.
The Directorate of Investment and Company Administration (DICA) is preparing to implement the law as quickly as possible. This is in line with major company law reforms in international jurisdictions which have taken around one year to commence the new law.
Accordingly, it is announced that the Myanmar Companies Law will commence on 1stAugust 2018.
