Myanmar and Australia are looking forward to further strengthening investment and trade ties following a ministerial meeting at the Directorate of Investment and Company Administration (DICA) in Yangon on 13 March 2017.
DICA Director General, U Aung Naing Oo, met the Australian Minister for International Development and the Pacific, HE Senator Concetta Fierravanti-Wells and discussed a number of potential investment and trade opportunities between the two countries.
The Director General explained the regulatory reform now underway in Myanmar, which includes the new Myanmar Investment Law and Rules, and an updated Companies Act.
Minister Fierravanti-Wells noted that Australia had helped Myanmar with its reforms with financial support through the World Bank’s International Finance Corporation.
The Director General outlined the potential for foreign investors, including Australian investors, in promoted areas like education, and Public Private Partnerships (PPPs).
The Minister said Australia was also ready to help Myanmar in such areas as building stronger public institutions.
